How much, approxitmately, would a 9′x15′ add-on roof cost?

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

We have to replace an add-on roof,a 9′x15′ sq ft area. We aren’t using a rubber roof, just the black paper and tar. We were quoted a price, including the cost of materials. I would love to get some feedback on this subject. Thanks.

Ravenrose, my feedback would not be accurate as the cost GREATLY varies by location. So, your best bet would stick to making an apples-to-apples comparison by getting more free estimates.

As it is, there are plenty of local roofing contractors seeking to give free estimates with no obligation, and taking advantage of this is the consumer-smart way to go about finding an accurate answer to your question

Getting the free estimates is key to getting a fair deal. Here’s a great link to a handyman site that offers free very resourceful information to assist you in your project, and, ultimately, select a local roofing contractor in an effort to get the best deal for you:

how much would general liabilty cost to start a roofing bussiness?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

i want to start a roofing bussiness how much would it cost for general liabilty

I actually just looked into this…roofing is costly for insurance companies because there are so many falls. The companies that I priced had a plan where you could do 25% roofing jobs and it was half the price of doing total roofing jobs. Sometimes companies won’t even insure you unless you have been in business for 5+ years. I saw prices around $2000 a year….good luck!

Roofing cost in the midwest?

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

1100 square feet, nothing fancy, just a rectangular one story roof. I’ve bought the shingles & felt paper. I have an air compressor, coil nail gun, nails, ladders, lap compound, shingle shovels, a dump truck, a place to dump the shingles, etc etc. I don’t have time. About how much compensation should I give 2 guys to remove 1100 s.f. of a single layer of 3 tab shingles, the felt paper underneath, put on new felt, and putting on new shingles?

Using your material & tools, that’s about 2 days for two guys, at 18 – 20 bucks an hour (If they work) which is around 575.00 dollars total. Best bet would be a contract price of about 600.00 dollars, that’s 150.00 bucks a day, each – strictly labor. ($ 18.75/hr.)Hired labor generally work faster on a contract job; but have a tendency to work slower if they are being paid by the hour.

(PS: Make sure these guys know how to do re-roofing cause you could wind up with an ugly mess.)

How much will it cost me to get rid of asbestos roofing in old cottage?

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

I have a small cottage the roof is asbestos sheeting which I need to remove to replace the roof. I was wondering if anybody had this done? How much generally is this service?

I got to believe that roofing contractors, when they re-roof roofs all the time, have encountered asbestos roofing here and there, so such contractors would be the people to contact.

So, contact local roofing contractors. Getting free estimates is key to getting a fair deal, as the cost GREATLY varies by location. What is a ‘rough’ guess to the cost of re roofing a hail damaged roof? (No steep pitch and average size)?

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

You know what, your best bet is to get free written estimates from local roofing contractors. Rough quotes will not get you any closer to what you need to know. It’s important that you get a local estimate and not rely on guesses found here on Yah, as a lot of factors really bear on the cost of such a project, including the following: The cost of material and labor greatly varies by location. How much does a roof cost?

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

In trinidad what is the average cost of a roof for approximately 900 sq feet? Also has anyone gotten a loan to build a house on squatting land?

The price could vary a lot depending on the kind of roof you want.

I did a search in the Trinidad and Tobago Yellow Pages and came up with quite a few companies that do roofs:

http://tntyp.com

Most reputable banks will be not lend to build on squatting land because if the loan goes bad they will have a lot of problems to sell the property maybe if the loan is secured by something else like cash or shares they may consider it.

Anyway here is a link to the Ministry of Housing where you should get some ideas on services available to people trying to get housing.

Roofing Repair cost over Ridge Vent?

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

I needed some help in regards to roof repair :)

I noticed some (single singles) in my yard from my roof. At first I did not know where they were coming from because looking at my roof everything looks fine.

This afternoon, I had a handy man come out to the house and asked him for his suggestions. He stated that those "Shingles" are from my roof and they are coming from over the Ridge Vent.

I am not sure with the "roofing terminology" and I am not sure if this this true or what is the ridge vent?

Note: He did not get on the roof he just looked at the roof from different areas of the yard and pointed it out to me and mentioned from the road you can see the wood at the top. Though, as you know, (me not knowing at lot about roof repairs) I was not sure and a bit confused. But, I found a total of 10 Shingles.

First of all, I wanted to know what is the average cost of a repair of such sort. The shingles that have came off of the roof are "grey" in color probably Asphalt shingles because have mineral granule over it and are single pieces.

Second of all, he stated that the work will take all together 1 hour and 30 minutes. He mentioned he would buy the shingles and nails and other materials. Now, I am confused if that is all there is too it or does the ridge vent or cap also need to be replaced.

Also, what is the proper procedure of the repair? Also is the Ridge Cap and Vent the same thing? He also mentioned something about HIP roofing? I hope the problem is simple and that is where the shingles came from. He menioned it is good to get this replaced soon or it could cause leaks to woren an come thru the ceiling because he guessed that water is getting in the attic.

Could someone please give me some roofing tips! :)

*Best Answer will be chosen*

Thank you so much!! I am a single lady and just do not want to get ripped off and give the work to someone trusted and make sure I am being told the correct information, if people know this type of work. Also, I want to make sure he told me the correct info and if there is anything I should also ask him.

Dont worry a bit about this your problem isnt a big on to solve. Before begin my answer let me help you learn a few common roofing terms. If you would like you can just copy and paste my link to my website ( I have an entire page dedicated just roofing terms and their definitions. Here is the link

http://www.tncroofs.com/topnotch_customized_roofing_talk_the_talk.html

As for what i understand about your situation it seems to me that the shingles ( also called ride cap) that cover your ridge vent have blown off. Not a big problem at all. Let me explain how the whole thing works. When you look at the your house you should see how there is something covering the very peak of it. This is called ridge vent. The reason why we do this is to have the moisture and heat that gets trapped in your attic a place to escape. If you would like to spend about 5 min to learn about this in alot more detail just go here on my site.

http://www.tncroofs.com/topnotch_customized_roofing_attic_ventilation.html

The reason why we put the capping over the ridge vent is because they come in 4 foot sections and fit end to end. Basically the same way two books would fit together if you placed them end to end on a table. The reason why we have to put shingles over them is for the fact that where the two pieces of ridge vent meet there is a space where the water can seep in.

As for your prices if your only missing 10 caps, you can buy a full bundle at Lowes for $23.48 and the 3 inch nails needed should only cost 2 maybe 3 dollars ( you dont need more then a 1 pound box) Your labor is another thing. To be honest I can replace 10 caps on ridge vent in maybe 3 minutes. So i don’t have a clue on how he gets an hour and a half. i would suggest asking him his price and then call another company and tell them " this other guy wants to charge me X amount to put back on 10 caps that blew off my ridge vent" They will underbid him i can bet. You can also keep your cost down by taking one of those shingles to Lowes and saying i need this color and buy 1 bundle of 3 TAB in that color as well as 1 pound box of 3 inch nails. They will help you load it into your car and then have the roofer you choose use them. I hope this has been helpful to you.

It depends on several things like:

a ballpark number would be around 80 bucks per roll.
